17th Annual Groundhog Day Jugglers Festival

Presented by the Atlanta Jugglers Association

When
Feb. 3-5, 1995

Gym Hours:

Where
Atlanta, Georgia
This year's festival will once again be held in the Grady High School Girl's Gym, on the corner of 10th Street and Monroe Drive, on the edge of Piedmont Park in Atlanta, Georgia. There'll be extra lighting once again, so bring your shades and prepare to juggle until you drop!

Cost
Once again for a measly $10 registration fee you can enjoy 3 fun filled days and 2 nights at the fabulous Groundhog Day Jugglers Festival in the town that will soon be overrun with Olympic athletes. Sorry we have to charge folks, but we don't get the space for free.

Details
Competition for the infamous PHIL awards happens Saturday at 2 PM. The customary Public Show is at 2 PM on Sunday. Please try to register for the Competition by Friday night and the Public Show by Saturday night. As usual we'll be throwing fire again this year, so bring flammable objects.

The Midnight Cabaret and associated party will be a little different than in the past few years. It will still be Saturday night, but this year we are proud to have Lenny Deluxe (aka Rodger French) and his Vaudeville Orchestra presenting a night of tangos at the Seven Stages Theater in Little Five Points, a few miles from the Gym. We'll be featuring juggling, vaudeville, and other variety acts done to live music. Any interested performers are encouraged to contact Rodger French at 404-325-5734 before Groundhog to discuss music, staging, etc. This performance will be open to the general public and will begin at 10:30 PM. Ticket prices are $7 for the general public, $5 for registered jugglers, and $3 for any registered juggler sporting a patch from last years festival. (We didn't sell very many of these last years and were looking for a gimmick to help us unload the leftovers. -GS) Look for more information at the registration desk.

Other Information:

Housing:
Very limited space is available at club member houses, so call early. We are still trying to set up a deal with a local hotel. Check at the registration desk for information.

Food:
Popcorn, soda, and other snack food will be available at the gym. We'll have a list and a map of local restaurants (several of which are in walking distance) available at registration.

Transportation:
MARTA (public transit) is still the cheapest and most colorful way to get around town. For only $1.25, you can catch a train from the airport but don't forget to get a bus transfer. Take the train to the North Avenue Station, and catch bus #45, Virginia/McClain. It will bring you right past Grady High School. Call 404-848-4711 until 10 PM Friday or 4 PM Saturday and Sunday for MARTA info.

You can't hail a CAB in this town, you must call for a pickup. Rapid Taxi at 222-9888 runs 24 hours a day and costs about $4.00 per person to get around downtown. CAUTION, if you get a cab from the airport it will cost you about $15.00, flat rate, per person.

Vendors:
We welcome any and all vendors to our festival. Please be advised if you sell anything at our festival, we collect 10% of your total sales at the end of the day on Sunday to help defray our costs. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Directions:
Take Interstate 75/85 to the 10th Street Exit. This is a couple of miles north of Downtown. Go East, away from Georgia Tech to just before 10th ends at Monroe Drive. Piedmont Park will be on your left. The Gym will be on your right, just before the football stadium. Look for the AJA signs. Park between the gym and the football stadium and follow the sound of the falling clubs. From I-20, take I-20 into town, go north on I-75/85 and follow the above directions.
