We are only weeks away from the 14th ANNUAL GROUNDHOG DAY JUGGLER'S FESTIVAL presented by those adorable anarchists THE ATLANTA JUGGLERS ASSOCIATION. This year's festival will be held at RICH'S CENTRAL ACADEMY (FORMERLY BASS HIGH SCHOOL) 1080 Euclid Avenue, Little Five Points, Atlanta. That's right across the street from our normal meeting place at the Little 5 Points Community Center. Keep reading for detailed directions. GYM HOURS: - Friday - January 31st - 5pm to 10pm - Saturday - February 1st - 10am to 10pm - Sunday - February 2nd - noon to 5pm GENERAL INFORMATION: Once again for a $10 REGISTRATION FEE you can enjoy 3 fun filled days and nights at the fabulous Groundhog Day Juggler's Festival in the city that's too busy to hate. Competition fro the famous "PHIL" award happens Saturday at 2pm, with the customary public show at 2pm on Sunday. Those of you interested in conducting workshops please contact us ahead of time. We will also be throwing fire again this year, so bring flammable objects! The Midnight Cabaret and associated party will be across the street from the gym in The Little 5 Points Community Center. Details on these and all the fun and exciting events happening during the festival will be available at registration. The PHIL competitions are probably THE premier juggling competitions in the US other than the annual IJA competitions. They are traditional testing grounds for the national competitions. Last years competitors included Clockwork, Cindy Marvell, John Nations, Chuck Gunter, and Bob Whitcomb; and none of them even won! Anthony Gatto, Benji Hill, Cindy Marvell, Manic Expressions, Pat McGuire, and Alan Howard are all past PHIL winners. Don't miss this year's competitions! HOUSING: Very limited space is available at club member houses, so call early. We are still trying to set up a deal with a local hotel. Check registration desk for information. FOOD: The botulism bimbos will not be serving food at the festival this year since the best of all cuisine is available in Little 5 Points. We will have a list and a map available at registration. TRANSPORTATION: MARTA is the cheapest and most colorful way to get around town. For only $1.00 you can catch a train from the airport. Don't forget to get a bus transfer. Take the train to 5 Points Station and exit out the Peachtree Street Exit. Cross the street and take the #3 Bus (Make sure it's the Auburn Ave Bus) to Euclid Ave. The bus stops right in front of the Rich's Central Academy sign. For more information on getting around on MARTA call 848-4711 until 10pm Friday or 4pm Saturday and Sunday. You can not hail a CAB in this town, you must call for a pickup. Rapid Taxi at 691-6666 runs 24 hrs a day and costs about $4.00 per person to get around downtown. CAUTION, if you get a cab from the airport it will cost you $15.00, flat rate, per person, regardless of where you go. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Some of our members have expressed an interest in putting together a "BEST OF" video for next year's 15th annual festival. If you have any video from previous years and would like to show and share them (not to mention having a hand in VIDEO GROUNDHOG), bring your tapes along. We will try to have a viewing area this year if you'd like a sneak preview. Discount International Jugglers Association Memberships will be available at the festival for the low low price of $15 for new members only. This is a 40% savings off the usual price of $25 so if you haven't joined yet wait no longer!!! NEED MORE INFORMATION? After 1 mile it will turn into a 4 lane street, so keep right. About 2 miles from the Expressway you will hit a light. There will be a Neon sign store on the left. The next light is MORELAND AVENUE, TURN RIGHT. The Second Light, about a half mile down, is EUCLID AVENUE, turn RIGHT. After the first light you will see the BASS HIGH SCHOOL sign on the RIGHT (However, they may have the Rich's Central Academy sign up by then). You will see the school buildings and gym on the right. Parking is in the back, follow the signs. George Strain gastrain@qvarsa.er.usgs.gov
